Opposition member Mosese Bulitavu has announced that the members of Bloc 9 will support Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s nomination for the presidency. Bulitavu stated, “Our stand is clear; we will support whoever the Prime Minister nominates.” He emphasized that there is no doubt in their commitment, affirming that all nine members of the bloc will back the Prime Minister.
According to Section 83 of the Constitution, candidates for the presidency must meet certain qualifications, including exhibiting a distinguished career in national or international affairs, holding only Fijian citizenship, not being a member of or holding an office in any political party, not being a candidate for any other state office, and possessing no criminal convictions in the six years prior to nomination.
