Opposition MPs Meet with Prime Minister for Talks

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced on Friday that he plans to meet with former FijiFirst and Opposition MPs this weekend. The 26 former FijiFirst MPs are currently without a party after FijiFirst was recently de-registered by the Registrar of Political Parties, Ana Mataiciwa.

Rabuka mentioned that Opposition MP Mosese Bulitavu had requested the meeting on behalf of the group. The meeting aims to discuss the current political status of the Opposition MPs and explore how they can effectively serve their parliamentary duties.

“I’m meeting them this weekend. It’s just a group request from Mo (Mosese),” Rabuka stated.

Earlier this week, Rabuka expressed his openness to various options and emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering open discussions as a means to collaborate on national issues. He highlighted his ongoing communication with Bulitavu, who is also his nephew, dating back to their time together in SODELPA.

Meanwhile, former FijiFirst Opposition MP Aliki Bia, now an Independent, has shown interest in supporting the People’s Alliance/National Federation Party and SODELPA-led Coalition Government. Bia indicated his willingness to take on any responsibilities offered by Rabuka.

“I am open to any opportunity of responsibility offered by the Prime Minister,” Bia said. “I’ve consulted with my family and my voters. If I am offered opportunities to help govern the people of Fiji, I’ll be more than ready and willing to give my support.”

Bia joins other Opposition MPs such as Penioni Ravunawa, Viliame Naupoto, Ketan Lal, Mosese Bulitavu, and Semi Koroilavesau in navigating the current political landscape.
