Seven members of the opposition, known as the Group of 9, are set to be sworn in as Ministers today in a significant political development. The group leader, Ioane Naivalurua, along with Viliame Naupoto and Mosese Bulitavu, will assume high-ranking ministerial roles. Naivalurua, a former Police Commissioner, is expected to take on the Minister for Police position, while Naupoto is anticipated to oversee Immigration and Bulitavu will manage the Climate Change portfolio, currently held by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.
Additionally, Aliki Bia, Naisa Tuinaceva, Ratu Josaia Niudamu, and Penioni Ravunawa will be appointed as Assistant Ministers. Bia is likely to be the Assistant Minister for Information, Tuinaceva for Transport and Infrastructure, Niudamu for Justice, and Ravunawa for Health.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 11 am at the State House, marking an important moment as these newly appointed members prepare to take on their responsibilities.
This political shift may bring fresh perspectives to the Ministerial roles and contribute positively to governance. The involvement of opposition members in key positions could foster collaboration and dialogue within the government, leading to more comprehensive policy-making that reflects a wider range of viewpoints. This could ultimately benefit the citizens by ensuring diverse representation in important areas such as health, justice, and environmental issues.
