The Leader of the Opposition, Inia Seruiratu, has expressed a sense of calm regarding the recent upheaval in the Government, which has seen significant changes including the suspension of FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali and the removal of Attorney General Graham Leung. Despite these developments, Seruiratu remains focused on the importance of transparency, calling for the immediate public release of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) report.

Seruiratu stated, “I’m not worried. We are all replaceable; nobody will be in a job for life. The good thing is that the Government seems to be acting on the COI concerns.” He stressed that the COI report, which addresses critical issues involving prominent politicians, should be made accessible to the public to ensure transparency.

In backing this call, Seruiratu emphasized that transparency is fundamental to maintaining public trust in governance. The gravity of recent allegations, particularly those involving potential ministerial interference in the operations of FICAC, has prompted him to advocate for an Independent Inquiry. Previously, he called for this inquiry to ensure that the allegations are thoroughly examined, thereby reinforcing the core principles of good governance and democracy.

This call for transparency and accountability aligns with his earlier statements urging the Government to establish a Commission of Inquiry with impartial members, free from conflicts of interest. The urgency of these matters reflects a critical moment for the governance of Fiji, as public trust must be restored through diligent investigation and clarity.

As discussions surrounding these issues continue to unfold, there is a hopeful sentiment that the engagement from political leaders like Seruiratu will foster a more transparent political environment in Fiji. With the potential for reforms stemming from the COI process, citizens can look forward to a governance framework that prioritizes integrity and accountability.
