Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for Finance, Inia Seruiratu, will commence the debate on the 2024-2025 National Budget in Parliament this morning.

This week’s session holds significant importance following the de-registration of the FijiFirst Party (Opposition) last Monday.

When questioned by FijiLive, both Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Seruiratu confirmed that discussions on forming a Government of National Unity have not taken place.

Seruiratu emphasized the importance of the Opposition Caucus remaining in Opposition to keep the Government accountable and ensure the smooth delivery of services to the Fijian people.

There are indications that some Independent MPs are planning to join the Government’s side.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister met with nine Independent MPs.

FijiLive has reliably informed that more MPs are expected to switch sides.

Meanwhile, 25 MPs have been listed in this morning’s Order Paper to respond to the budget announcement.
