The deployment of K9 capabilities continues as Operation Yavirau intensifies its efforts to disrupt the illicit drug trade and related crimes.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP-O) Livai Driu reported that snap checks and searches were carried out with assistance from the Fiji Detector Dog Unit and Police Dog Unit, resulting in the seizure of both white and green drugs.
Driu stated that more than 10 individuals were arrested and taken into custody within the last 48 hours.
He added that apart from the specialized operations teams, officers on routine duties would also conduct snap searches on individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior.
“We are recording arrests throughout Fiji, and in the past 48 hours, arrests have been made in Suva, Lakeba, Nanuku Settlement, Lami, Lautoka in the main city area, Nausori Highland Road, and Tukavesi,” said Driu.
“A number of arrests and seizures were made possible through joint deployments and snap checks conducted by the FDDU and Police Dog Unit, while others were the result of information and intelligence gathering.”
