The police are ramping up their initiatives to address drug supply issues across the country, according to Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu. He announced that Operation Sasamaki will continue through December, with the objective of effectively managing, controlling, and disrupting the drug trade.

During a recent visit to Naweni Village in Cakaudrove, Commissioner Tudravu emphasized the seriousness of the operation, asserting, “We are going into enemy territory, and we mean business here.” This statement showcases the police’s resolute approach to tackling the drug problem directly.

Commissioner Tudravu highlighted that the battle against drug-related crimes is not solely a matter of law enforcement but also a critical effort to save lives. He expressed worry about the motives of those involved in the illicit drug industry, noting that many individuals are primarily driven by profit, showing little regard for the wellbeing of their communities. He remarked, “The people who are planting drugs only care about the dollar value,” pointing to the urgent need for behavior change for the welfare of local communities.

This operation aligns with a broader strategy established by the Fiji Police, which also underscores the importance of community engagement in reducing drug-related offenses. Previous reports have shown that local residents providing information to law enforcement can lead to significant advancements in combating narcotics.

The ongoing initiatives by the Fiji Police, combined with community collaboration, present a hopeful way forward in tackling the drug crisis. With increased visibility of law enforcement and proactive participation from local citizens, there is optimism for creating safer and healthier communities in Fiji. This concerted effort not only aims to fight crime but also promises to secure a better future for the next generations.
