Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has expressed a strong commitment to fighting poverty in the country as part of his 2025 agenda. In his New Year’s message, he outlined plans for a new initiative called the “Targeted Poverty Alleviation Programme of One Village at a Time.” This program aims to assist the most marginalized and impoverished Fijians in overcoming economic challenges.

Rabuka emphasized that while improvements will not happen overnight, they are achievable, as demonstrated by other nations that have successfully lifted their citizens out of poverty. The Prime Minister reiterated that every Fijian deserves a life of dignity, advocating for a shift away from mere handouts to more sustainable solutions that empower individuals.

His vision calls for innovation and investment in social protection programs, emphasizing a collaborative approach across the country to enhance livelihoods, whether through employment or entrepreneurial ventures.

This initiative reflects a hopeful and proactive stance towards tackling poverty in Fiji, paving the way for a more equitable society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. By focusing on community-based solutions, the program aims to create lasting change and support the development of self-sufficiency among the poorest populations.
