The Olympic flame is making its way across Sicily, recently stopping in the historic port city of Catania as part of its journey to promote the spirit of the upcoming 2026 Winter Games. This significant event is part of a two-month torch relay that travels throughout Italy.
The flame was originally lit in ancient Olympia, Greece, the birthplace of the Olympic movement, before being passed to Italian organizers in early December. Over the course of its journey, the torch will cover approximately 12,000 kilometers, making its way through all 110 Italian provinces and passing through more than 300 towns and cities.
To celebrate this significant occasion, end-of-day celebrations are scheduled in 60 locations along the relay route, allowing communities to come together in anticipation of the Winter Games. Italy previously hosted the Winter Olympics in 2006, with the event held in Turin, further solidifying the country’s rich Olympic history.
The torch relay symbolizes not only the excitement of the upcoming games but also a sense of unity and community across Italy as it prepares to host this prestigious international event.
