Iosefo Masi and Selestino Ravutaumada, who recently earned silver medals at the 2024 Olympics, will transition from the rugby field to coaching as they take on leadership roles with the Fijian Drua 7s during the Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s tournament. Despite rehabilitating from injuries, the duo has been entrusted to guide their teammates from the coaches’ box.
The Fijian Drua will be bolstered by an experienced lineup, which includes captain Tuidraki Samusamuvodre and seasoned players like Joseva Tamani, Kemu Valetini, Epeli Momo, and Ilaisa Droasese. General Manager Baden Stephenson highlighted the value of participating in the Mataso 7s, emphasizing that it would provide valuable experience and allow the team to enjoy the competition.
Stephenson expressed gratitude to the organizers for accommodating the Drua and noted that this event serves as a fantastic opportunity for Masi and Ravutaumada to explore coaching while continuing their rehabilitation journey. He stated, “Personal development is a big area of focus here at the Drua, and I know Masi and Stino are very excited to share their 7s knowledge with their teammates.”
The Mataso 7s is set to commence tomorrow at Churchill Park in Lautoka, promising an exciting showcase of talent and sportsmanship.
This development represents a hopeful new chapter for both Masi and Ravutaumada, as they enhance their leadership skills while recovering from injuries. Their transition to coaching not only contributes to their personal growth but also enriches the team’s dynamic, fostering a culture of mentorship within the Fijian Drua.
