Newcastle Red Bulls have secured the signing of Fijian winger Joji Nasova on a two-year deal, effective from the beginning of the upcoming season. At just 25 years old, Nasova has already made a notable impact on the rugby scene, scoring four tries in three international matches after transitioning from the sevens format.
Nasova played a key role in the Fiji team that earned a silver medal in rugby sevens at the 2024 Paris Olympics, showcasing his high-caliber talent on an international stage. Before joining the Red Bulls, he is currently competing for Fijian Drua in this year’s Super Rugby.
Red Bulls’ sporting general manager Neil McIlroy expressed enthusiasm about Nasova’s potential contributions to the team. “Joji is an electrifying runner who can really help spark our attack into life,” McIlroy stated on the club’s website. He also noted the excitement surrounding Nasova’s ability to bring an X-factor to the match, which will surely delight the fans.
This signing is part of Newcastle’s aggressive recruitment strategy for the next season, which has already seen more than ten new players joining the squad. However, the team faces challenges in the current season, sitting at the bottom of the Premiership table after a heavy defeat of 73-14 against Saracens.
Despite the current struggles, the arrival of Nasova and the commitment to bolstering the roster provide hope for a brighter future for the club as they work to improve their standing in the league. The combination of experienced international talent and strategic signings indicates that the Red Bulls are ready to embark on a path toward revitalization.
