French rugby club Biarritz has announced the immediate termination of Masivesi Dakuwaqa, the gold medalist from the Rio 2016 Olympic rugby sevens. This decision follows an incident last month where Dakuwaqa allegedly bit fellow player Pierre Pages during a match, resulting in Pages being hospitalized due to injuries sustained to his cheek.

In a statement, Biarritz explained that an international investigation into the allegations revealed circumstances that made it untenable for Dakuwaqa to continue with the team. The club noted that the decision to part ways was reached by mutual consent.

Local authorities have opened a serious investigation into the incident, marking it a significant development for both the player and the club. Dakuwaqa, who has been part of Biarritz since 2024, has a background in professional rugby, having played in Pro D2 since 2019.

This situation underscores the ongoing accountability within sports, particularly concerning player conduct and the safety of athletes on the field.

While the incident is unfortunate, it serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining sportsmanship and professionalism in competitive environments. The hope remains that Dakuwaqa will learn and grow from this experience as he moves forward in his career.
