The Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, has acknowledged that the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) report for Nabua Primary School is still pending. A team conducted a site visit on November 4, with the report initially expected the following day. However, despite repeated inquiries, no action has been taken by the Ministry.
Additionally, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has expressed concern over the deteriorating conditions at the school, where students face hazardous situations due to unfinished and poorly maintained structures. Radrodro noted that the building, which was constructed under previous management, was incomplete and that efforts are underway to collaborate with the new management to finalize the construction.
He encouraged the school to formally request government assistance through the Ministry of Education if needed. The situation has raised alarms over significant structural issues impacting classrooms, including rusted roofs and missing window panes, which not only jeopardize student safety but also create potential escape routes.
The challenges at Nabua Primary School affect over 900 students and highlight a more extensive problem: the declining infrastructure of public education across urban areas.
This situation underscores the importance of prompt governmental action and community engagement to ensure a safe learning environment for students. By focusing on improving educational infrastructure, the government can foster a stronger foundation for future generations.
In summary, the case of Nabua Primary School emphasizes the urgent need for addressing educational infrastructure to protect students and enhance their learning experience.
