Pacific and national sprint champion Banuve Tabakaucoro emphasized the importance of behind-the-scenes work in the journey to athletic greatness during an off-season training program with 15 athletes at his Bullet Academy Athletics Club in Suva. Tabakaucoro expressed that true champions are built during the demanding and often unglamorous periods of training, highlighting the sacrifices made by his athletes who have opted to forgo holidays and leisure time to focus on their fitness and skill development.
He noted that many athletes have chosen to stay and train rather than visit their villages, a testament to their dedication and commitment to improving their performance. The growth of the club, with an increasing number of athletes each year, signals the effectiveness of Tabakaucoro’s coaching strategies and the nurturing environment he has created.
Tabakaucoro’s mission centers on shaping the next generation of Fijian athletes by instilling values of speed, strength, discipline, and cultural pride. He stated that the rising number of participants is promising for both the club and the coaching team, indicating a bright future for Fijian athletics.
The coach is optimistic that the hard work put in during this off-season will translate into success, with expectations for athletes to secure medals at upcoming competitions such as the Cokes. With numerous schools ramping up their off-season preparations, Tabakaucoro anticipates a competitive Fiji Finals next year, making the current training period crucial for his athletes’ success. This commitment to improvement and dedication to the sport not only helps develop individual talents but also contributes to the broader growth of athletics in Fiji.
