The OFC U-16 Women’s Championship is set to kick off tomorrow at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, featuring eight teams from the Oceania region competing for two coveted spots in the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco. This championship holds significant importance following the World Cup’s expansion to 24 teams.
The tournament is divided into two groups. Group A includes Fiji, Tonga, Cook Islands, and Samoa, while Group B consists of New Zealand, New Caledonia, Tahiti, and the Solomon Islands, all vying for top positions.
The tournament will conclude with an exciting structure, where the winners of Group A will compete against the runners-up of Group B, and vice versa, in the semi-finals scheduled for September 18. The winners of these semi-finals will not only secure their World Cup spots but also advance to compete for the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship title in the final on September 21.
