The OFC U-16 Women’s Championship is set to begin tomorrow at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, where eight teams from across the Oceania region will compete for two places in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which will be held next year in Morocco.
This championship is particularly significant due to the recent expansion of the World Cup to include 24 teams. The tournament will feature two groups: Group A includes Fiji, Tonga, Cook Islands, and Samoa, while Group B consists of New Zealand, New Caledonia, Tahiti, and the Solomon Islands, all vying for the top positions.
The format of the tournament leads to an exciting conclusion, with the winners of Group A facing the runners-up from Group B, and vice versa, during the semi-finals set for September 18. The winners of these matches will not only earn their spots in the World Cup but also compete for the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship title in the final scheduled for September 21.
