The OFC U-16 Women’s Championship is set to kick off tomorrow at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, featuring eight teams from the Oceania region competing for two prestigious spots at the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco. This championship has gained significant importance following the World Cup’s expansion to 24 teams and is structured into two groups.
Group A includes Fiji, Tonga, Cook Islands, and Samoa, while Group B comprises New Zealand, New Caledonia, Tahiti, and the Solomon Islands, all vying for advancement. The tournament will culminate in semi-final matches on September 18, where the winners from each group will face the runners-up from the opposite group.
