The OFC U-16 Women’s Championship is set to begin tomorrow at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, featuring eight teams from the Oceania region competing for two spots in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup next year in Morocco.
This championship is particularly significant due to the World Cup’s expansion to 24 teams and is divided into two groups. Group A includes Fiji, Tonga, Cook Islands, and Samoa, while Group B consists of New Zealand, New Caledonia, Tahiti, and Solomon Islands.
The tournament is designed to culminate in an exciting finish, with the winners of Group A facing the runners-up of Group B, and the Group B winners taking on the Group A runners-up in the semi-finals set for September 18. The winners of these semi-final matches will not only earn a spot in the World Cup but will also compete for the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship title in the final scheduled for September 21.
