Samoa and Tonga are set to represent Oceania in the upcoming 2025 World Sevens Challenger Series, following their strong performances in the Oceania Sevens Rugby finals held in Honiara on Sunday.
Both the men’s and women’s teams from Samoa successfully secured their spots in the series. In the men’s final, Manu Samoa Sevens triumphed over the Fiji Development team with a close score of 17-12, earning them the title of champions in the region. Meanwhile, the Manusina Sevens faced a tough match against Fijiana in the women’s final, ultimately losing 14-5. However, they still qualified for the Challenger Series because Fiji is already a core team in the HSBC Sevens World Series.
In addition to Samoa, Tonga also earned a place in the competition, having defeated Tuvalu 24-19 in the third-place playoff.
This milestone achievement highlights the growing competitiveness of rugby in Oceania and showcases the talent of the teams in the region. The inclusion of both Samoa and Tonga in the 2025 World Sevens Challenger Series provides a promising opportunity for these teams to gain international exposure and experience.
As rugby continues to flourish in Oceania, this development brings hope for the future of the sport in the region. Fans can look forward to seeing these teams strive for success in the upcoming series.
