Oceania Rugby has inaugurated its first Match Official High-Performance Camp in Nadi, in collaboration with World Rugby and with support from the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade through the PacificAus Sports program. This pioneering initiative aims to improve officiating standards and enhance skills throughout the Oceania region. Richard Sapias, President of Oceania Rugby, expressed that launching the camp in Fiji highlights their dedication to developing match officials and fostering excellence in the sport. The camp includes a variety of intensive training sessions, workshops, and discussions led by experienced referees and educators from World Rugby. It provides a valuable opportunity for match officials to refine their skills, stay updated on the latest in rugby officiating, and foster camaraderie within the community. Frank Puletua, General Manager of Oceania Rugby, emphasized the camp’s significance in improving the skills of local officials. He stated, “We are taking significant steps to develop and upskill our officials, pushing towards higher standards and competencies.”
