Oceania Rugby has introduced its inaugural Match Official High-Performance Camp in Nadi, in partnership with World Rugby and with support from the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade through the PacificAus Sports program. This innovative program seeks to improve officiating standards and enhance skills throughout the Oceania region.
Richard Sapias, President of Oceania Rugby, emphasized the significance of launching the camp in Fiji, stating it reflects their commitment to developing match officials and fostering excellence in the sport.
The camp consists of a variety of intensive training sessions, workshops, and discussions led by experienced referees and educators from World Rugby, providing match officials with a valuable opportunity to refine their abilities, stay updated on the latest officiating practices, and strengthen community bonds.
Frank Puletua, General Manager of Oceania Rugby, highlighted the camp’s importance in advancing the skills of local officials, saying, “We are taking significant steps to develop and upskill our officials, pushing towards higher standards and competencies.”
