More than a thousand attendees gathered at the International School Suva (ISS) for its family fun day, held on Saturday. The event transformed the school into a lively celebration featuring musical performances, including piano solos by representatives from the Indian High Commission.
Louisa Fisher, president of the ISS Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), expressed that this event signifies the school’s dedication to environmental education. “Family fun day is a much-anticipated celebration for our school and the wider community,” Ms. Fisher noted, highlighting the ocean-themed festivities that reflect ISS’s commitment to marine conservation and the shared appreciation for the sea.
This year’s theme complements existing initiatives at ISS focused on ocean education. Under Whole School Ocean Coordinator Hannah Nanovu, the school is fostering ocean literacy among students, aiming to cultivate future advocates for marine conservation. Activities such as field trips, kayaking, and snorkeling are integral to this program, providing hands-on experiences to deepen students’ understanding of marine ecosystems.
As the family fun day reinforces community bonds, it echoes the school’s broader mission to engage families in environmental stewardship while celebrating the joys of learning and togetherness. This collective commitment not only enriches the local community but also contributes to the global movement towards sustainable practices and awareness regarding ocean health.
This event showcases ISS’s enriched culture of education and community engagement, paving the way for future generations to become knowledgeable stewards of the environment.
