Ocean for Peace: Fiji’s Prime Minister Eyes UN Agenda

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has indicated that his upcoming visit to the United Nations General Assembly will occur once the Pacific Islands Forum takes on his proposed ‘Ocean for Peace’ policy, which he introduced at the 53rd Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting in Tonga last month.

During the launch of Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper, Rabuka noted that he plans to present the ‘Oceans for Peace’ initiative at the UNGA, highlighting its adoption during the recent leaders’ meeting in Tonga. He anticipates that the framework will be officially recognized during the Pacific Islands Forum in Honiara, Solomon Islands, scheduled for next year.

Rabuka also mentioned that he has requested His Excellency President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere to represent him as the Leader of Government at the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York this week. Additionally, he noted that the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat is collaborating with the Fiji Government to develop a plan aimed at promoting peace and security among Pacific nations.
