Nineteen-year-old Martina Kathleen Tulpe Sigrah will be promoting ocean conservation at the 2024 Miss Hibiscus Festival in Suva. The bronze medalist from the 2023 Pacific Games in the V12 open 500m women’s category is representing Island Accommodation.

Currently, she is studying Journalism and Law at the University of the South Pacific. Originating from Rabi, home to the Banabans, Martina has connections to Kiribati and Kosrae Island. She comes from a family of eight and is supported by her parents, three sisters, and two brothers.

Martina began her paddling journey at age 14, inspired by her siblings who are also passionate about the sport. This enthusiasm has led her to become the first in her family to wear the national jumper and compete internationally.

In addition to her sports achievements, Martina is a cultural dancer, embodying the story of the Banaban people’s struggles since colonial times. Her deep affection for the ocean drives her involvement in beach and marine clean-ups, addressing pollution issues.

Her sponsor, Island Accommodation, offers serviced apartments in Suva and Nadi, alongside villas in Pacific Harbor. The company caters to the local and international markets, providing accommodation for professionals, families, students, groups, and sports teams.

The Hibiscus Festival will take place from August 31 to September 7 at the Suva Foreshore and the Civic Centre.
