The Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) held a Committee of Ambassadors meeting recently, focusing on critical priorities including preparations for the upcoming COP30 and the 11th OACPS Summit of Heads of State and Government. This meeting also reviewed the outcomes from a technical workshop regarding the International Court of Justice (ICJ) advisory opinion on climate action, highlighting the ongoing commitment of the OACPS to address climate-related issues.
OACPS Secretary-General, Moussa Batraki, emphasized the importance of unity and resolve among Member States. He underscored the need for a revitalized multilateral system that can effectively respond to current global challenges. “No nation, no region, and no organisation can meet today’s challenges alone,” he declared, urging for enhanced global solidarity and cooperation to transform shared visions into concrete actions.
Moses Kuoni Mose, Chair of the OACPS Committee of Ambassadors and the Solomon Islands’ Permanent Representative to the EU, echoed this sentiment, stating that the OACPS stands at a pivotal moment where global difficulties intersect with the aspirations of its member countries. He called upon ambassadors to commit fully to executing the organization’s mandate during his six-month presidency. Mose outlined five key priority areas for action: supporting the reform process of OACPS, implementing the Samoa Agreement, convening the 120th OACPS Council of Ministers in December 2025, ensuring financial sustainability, and advancing preparations for the 11th Summit, scheduled for March 2026 in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
This gathering and its focus on prioritizing reform and collective action arrive in a context where the OACPS is adapting to significant global changes, particularly as it approaches its 50th anniversary. The emphasis on collaboration and proactive engagement among member countries reflects the commitment to not only address pressing issues such as climate change but also to create a durable framework for the future.
Looking ahead, the collective endeavors of the OACPS members foster a sense of hope that united actions can shape a resilient and sustainable future for the regions they represent. As global dialogues continue, the OACPS remains dedicated to leveraging shared goals and mutual support to enhance the effectiveness of its initiatives and foster sustainable development across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific.
