A new cooperative business venture has been initiated by six communities in the Kabara region of Fiji, including Komo and Namuka-i-Lau. This initiative follows the successful launch of a cooperative training program held at Valelevu, Nasinu earlier this week. Ponijasi Saulekaleka, the group’s leader, emphasized the potential for growth and empowerment through effective use of their local resources.

The cooperative aims to leverage local skills and establish a sustainable business model that promotes the area’s traditional crafts and services. The leaders of these communities are dedicated to preserving their cultural heritage while ensuring economic stability.

Noteworthy is the government’s support in facilitating business opportunities, as highlighted by the Minister of Fisheries, who acknowledged the importance of innovation and training for the youth in these communities. The hope is that by building on their skilled workforce, they can create a stronger local economy.

The six communities involved—comprising the villagers of Nakuro, Naikeleyaga, Nukuleka, Vuanigiagia, Nuburavi, and Lomati—are uniting to enhance their market presence and ensure their products reach a broader audience. The cooperative approach embodies a spirit of collaboration, and with government backing, the coalition believes it can overcome market challenges and succeed over the coming years.

This initiative highlights the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit in the face of adversity, showing that collective effort and community support can lead to greater achievements. As these communities work together, they not only seek economic growth but also strive to inspire others in the region, reinforcing the idea that local solutions can foster sustainable development.

In summary, the establishment of this cooperative among the six communities marks a promising step forward for local entrepreneurship in Fiji, showcasing the potential of unity and resourceful thinking in driving economic improvement and preserving cultural identity.
