Meretinai Vaturaiyawa, a student at Nakorotubu Secondary School, is determined to attend Fiji National University (FNU) for her higher education, aspiring to become a nurse. The 16-year-old expressed her enthusiasm after participating in the FNU Open Day, particularly focusing on Food Science and the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Science.
Vaturaiyawa highlighted the lack of health professionals from her village in Veidrala working at the local health center in Namarai Village, stating her goal is to serve at that facility one day. She gained valuable insights during the Open Day event held in Nasinu, leading her to choose FNU as her preferred institution for tertiary education.
Having joined her school in 2021 when it was established, Vaturaiyawa noted the challenges faced this year, including the absence of Biology and Chemistry teachers during the first two terms. Although a Biology and Chemistry teacher has been appointed for Term Three, the school is currently without a Home Economics teacher, relying on the vice-principal to distribute worksheets in those classes.
