Jese Dautei Robinson has made a remarkable mark in the nursing field by becoming the only male nurse to graduate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery in Labasa, where he was among 12 nurses. His academic journey has been distinguished, earning him three notable awards: Academic Excellence in Normal Puerperium and Newborn, Academic Excellence in Normal Labour and Birth, and Overall Academic Excellence in the program.

At 32 years old and hailing from Vunikodi Village in Udu, Macuata, Mr. Robinson celebrated his achievements during the graduation ceremony at the TISI Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education held at the Civic Centre in Labasa. Currently working at the Nasea Health Centre, he revealed that a personal loss spurred his decision to pursue nursing, stemming from the death of his father, Veveni Robinson, when he was only in Year 11.

As the second oldest of eight siblings, Robinson embraced the role of an anchor for his family and community. His choice to specialize in midwifery is particularly meaningful to him. He stated, “I chose to become a midwife, even though I am a male nurse, because I want to become a good father.” His dedication to the field is further reinforced by his wife’s parallel commitment to nursing at Labasa Hospital.

Mr. Robinson expressed a deep desire to witness the joy of childbirth and aimed to enhance his qualifications to ensure safe deliveries for mothers. He remarked, “To help bring a life into this world and place it in a mother’s arms is the purest joy.” Additionally, he passionately advocates for the nursing profession, highlighting its inclusivity, saying, “Nursing is a beautiful profession where there is no boundary set between genders. I encourage people to pursue a career in this field.”

Jese Robinson’s achievements serve not only to break stereotypes but also to inspire many to chase their aspirations, demonstrating that compassion and skill transcend gender. His story promotes hope and illustrates the evolving landscape of healthcare, where dedication and empathy are paramount.

In summary, Robinson’s journey is a testament to strength and motivation drawn from personal experiences, as he encourages future generations to embrace careers in nursing and midwifery, showcasing that the profession is welcoming to all.
