Raluve Tubuna Tadu Varuru distinguished herself during the graduation ceremony at TISI Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education, earning five prestigious awards as the sole Bachelor of Nursing Science graduate. The event took place yesterday at the Civic Centre in Labasa, where the 25-year-old from Nasinu Village, Navatu, Cakaudrove, was visibly emotional as she remembered her late grandmother and mentor, Latileta Lakai, to whom she dedicated her accomplishments.
Varuru reflected on how her grandmother raised her and her twin sister, always hoping to witness their graduation. Overcome with gratitude, she expressed her desire to honor that dream. She was recognized for her outstanding performance, clinching awards in several categories including Academic Excellence in Nursing Knowledge, Mental Health, Nursing Practice, Population Health, Personal Professional Development, Research, and Overall Academic Excellence.
Her path to nursing commenced after she earned a Bachelor of Dietetics and Nutrition from Fiji National University in 2020. Realizing her passion for helping the sick went beyond an office setting, she decided to pursue nursing further. Varuru emphasized the importance of chasing one’s dreams, stating, “If we have a dream and passion to do something productive, we should go for it.” She credited her success to her love of reading, which she described as her “biggest secret” to achievement.
Her parents, Titilia Leba, a preschool teacher, and Peter Earley, who works as a caretaker in Cakaudrove, expressed immense pride in their daughter’s resilience and determination. They said, “We are proud and blessed to have a daughter like Varuru who never gives up.”
Varuru’s success is not only a reflection of her hard work but also a tribute to her family’s unwavering support. Her achievements serve as an inspiration for aspiring nurses across Fiji, showing that dedication and passion can lead to remarkable outcomes.
Overall, this story showcases the importance of mentorship and family support, encouraging others to persevere in their pursuits.
