Raluve Tubuna Tadu Varuru emerged as the standout graduate at the TISI Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education graduation event held yesterday. The 25-year-old from Nasinu Village, Navatu, Cakaudrove, became the sole recipient of five prestigious awards in the Bachelor of Nursing Science category.
Emotions ran high during the ceremony at Labasa’s Civic Centre as Ms. Varuru paid tribute to her late grandmother and mentor, Latileta Lakai, dedicating her accomplishments to her memory. With tears in her eyes, she reflected on how her grandmother had raised her and her twin sister, always hoping to see them graduate.
Ms. Varuru, the eldest of three siblings, was recognized for her outstanding performance with awards in areas such as Academic Excellence in Nursing Knowledge and Mental Health, Nursing Practice, Population Health, Personal Professional Development and Research, and Overall Academic Excellence.
Her path to nursing began after she earned a Bachelor of Dietetics and Nutrition from Fiji National University in 2020. Driven by a desire to provide direct care to patients, she chose to continue her studies in nursing. “I believe that if we have a dream and passion to do something productive, we should go for it,” she expressed. She also credited her love of reading as a key factor in her success.
Her parents, Titilia Leba, a pre-school teacher, and Peter Earley, a caretaker in Cakaudrove, expressed their immense pride in their daughter’s perseverance and strength. “We are proud and blessed to have a daughter like Varuru who never gives up,” they remarked.
Ms. Varuru’s achievements not only reflect her personal dedication but also highlight a commitment to her late grandmother’s aspirations. Her success serves as an inspiration to future nurses across Fiji, showcasing how determination and family support can lead to remarkable accomplishments.
This story illustrates the powerful impact of family and the pursuit of one’s passions, encouraging others to follow their dreams despite challenges. It also emphasizes the importance of education and personal dedication in making a positive difference in the healthcare field.
