Raluve Tubuna Tadu Varuru emerged as a remarkable graduate at the recent TISI Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education graduation ceremony, held at the Labasa Civic Centre. The 25-year-old made history as the sole recipient of five distinguished awards in the Bachelor of Nursing Science program.
Overwhelmed with emotion during the ceremony, Varuru paid tribute to her late grandmother and mentor, Latileta Lakai, dedicating her achievements to the woman who played a pivotal role in her life. “My grandmother raised me since childhood and always wished to see us, the twin sisters, graduate,” Varuru expressed tearfully.
As the eldest of three siblings, Varuru was honored for her exemplary performance across various categories, receiving accolades for Academic Excellence in Nursing Knowledge and Mental Health, Nursing Practice, Population Health, Personal Professional Development and Research, as well as Overall Academic Excellence. Her nursing journey began after obtaining a Bachelor of Dietetics and Nutrition from Fiji National University in 2020. Drawn by a deeper passion to care for others, she took the significant step to further her studies in nursing.
“I believe that if we have a dream and passion to do something productive, we should go for it,” Varuru stated. She also credited her love for reading as a major factor in her success.
Her parents, Titilia Leba, a preschool teacher, and Peter Earley, a caretaker in Cakaudrove, expressed immense pride in their daughter’s resilience and determination, saying, “We are proud and blessed to have a daughter like Varuru who never gives up.”
Varuru’s remarkable success not only honors her grandmother’s dreams but also serves as an inspiring example for emerging nurses throughout Fiji. Her story demonstrates that with passion, perseverance, and familial support, one can overcome challenges and achieve their dreams.
This inspiring narrative embodies hope and determination, qualities that encourage both current and future students to strive for their ambitions, irrespective of the obstacles they face.
