Raluve Tubuna Tadu Varuru emerged as the standout graduate at the TISI Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education ceremony, held yesterday, where she was the sole recipient of five distinguished awards in the Bachelor of Nursing Science program.
The 25-year-old, hailing from Nasinu Village in Navatu, Cakaudrove, was visibly emotional during the graduation at the Civic Centre in Labasa, reflecting on her late grandmother and mentor, Latileta Lakai, to whom she dedicated her impressive accomplishments. “My grandmother raised me since childhood and always wished to see us, the twin sisters, graduate,” she shared tearfully.
As the eldest of three siblings, Ms. Varuru’s stellar performance was recognized with accolades for Academic Excellence in Nursing Knowledge and Mental Health, Nursing Practice, Population Health, Personal Professional Development and Research, and Overall Academic Excellence.
Her path to nursing began after earning a Bachelor in Dietetics and Nutrition from Fiji National University in 2020. Motivated by a desire to extend her service beyond an office environment, she chose to advance her studies in nursing. “I believe that if we have a dream and passion to do something productive, we should go for it,” she asserted. Avid reading, which she attributes to her success, remains a significant part of her life.
Her parents, Titilia Leba, a pre-school teacher, and Peter Earley, a caretaker in Cakaudrove, expressed immense pride in their daughter’s resilience and commitment. “We are proud and blessed to have a daughter like Varuru who never gives up,” they stated.
Ms. Varuru’s journey epitomizes dedication and familial support, honoring her grandmother’s aspirations and inspiring future nursing professionals throughout Fiji.
This uplifting story not only highlights personal achievement but also reflects the power of familial support and the importance of following one’s passions. It serves as a powerful reminder to all aspiring professionals that persistence and dedication often lead to success.
