Meretinai Vaturaiyawa, a student from Nakorotubu Secondary School, has expressed her desire to attend Fiji National University (FNU) for her tertiary education, with aspirations of becoming a nurse. The 16-year-old was particularly inspired by the FNU Open Day, where she focused on Food Science and explored opportunities within the College of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Science.

Vaturaiyawa mentioned the presence of a health center in her village of Namarai, but noted that there are currently no local residents employed there. “It is my aim that one day I’ll be stationed at the health center at Namarai as a nurse,” she affirmed.

She shared that her experience at the FNU Open Day in Nasinu solidified her decision to choose FNU for her future studies. Vaturaiyawa joined Nakorotubu Secondary School in 2021, after its establishment in 2020.

Despite facing challenges, such as the lack of Biology and Chemistry teachers during the first two terms of the year, she remained hopeful as a teacher was finally appointed for Term Three. However, she indicated that her school was still without a Home Economics teacher, leading to the vice-principal distributing worksheets for those classes.
