Meretinai Vaturaiyawa, a student from Nakorotubu Secondary School, has expressed confidence that Fiji National University (FNU) will be her top choice for further education. She aspires to pursue a career in nursing.

“My focus during the FNU Open Day was on Food Science, and I also explored the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Science,” Vaturaiyawa shared. She is enthusiastic about discovering the opportunities available in the medical field.

At just 16 years old, Vaturaiyawa pointed out that there is a health center located in Namarai Village, Nakorotubu, Ra, but noted that no one from her village or the nearby Veidrala works there. “I hope to work at the health center in Namarai as a nurse one day,” she added.

She mentioned that the information she gathered during the FNU Open Day in Nasinu was invaluable. “I’ve decided to choose FNU as my future tertiary institution based on the insights I received today,” Vaturaiyawa stated.

The school she attends was founded in 2020, and she enrolled in Year Nine in 2021. However, she raised concerns about the lack of Biology and Chemistry teachers at her school during the first and second terms of this year. “We finally have a Biology and Chemistry teacher in Term Three, but we are still without a Home Economics teacher,” she explained. In the absence of formal instruction, the vice-principal has been providing worksheets for Home Economics classes.
