Labasa’s Northpole FC emerged victorious in the 2024 Cecil’s National Club Championship, overcoming Buiduna FC from Tailevu Naitasiri with a thrilling score of 6-3 during a high-stakes final held at the Fiji FA Academy Ground in Vatuwaqa.

The match kicked off with Salimone Ravonokula scoring the first goal for Northpole in the 10th minute, followed by veteran striker Christopher Wasasala adding a second from the penalty spot in the 30th minute. Buiduna FC fought back with a goal from France Catarogo in the 38th minute, and Sairusi Qiolevu equalized just before halftime, leaving the score tied at 2-2 at the break.

However, Northpole FC regained control in the second half, showcasing their offensive might with four additional goals scored by Melvin Mani, Wasasala, Eparama Moraica, and Malakai Arabaz. As they celebrated their victory, Northpole FC took home a cash prize of $4,000 and received the Fair Play award. Wasasala was notably recognized as the tournament’s top scorer with six goals, earning the Golden Boot Award, while teammate Ilisoni Lolaivalu received the Golden Ball Award for his exceptional performance throughout the tournament.

Buiduna FC didn’t leave empty-handed either; they received a $1,000 prize, and goalkeeper Kitione Baleiloa was awarded the Golden Glove for his impressive saves during the competition.

This victory not only solidifies Northpole FC’s position in Fijian football but also highlights the growing competitiveness of the league, showcasing talent and sportsmanship from both teams. The success at the championship further inspires other clubs to aim for excellence in this vibrant football community.
