Labasa’s Northpole FC secured the title at the 2024 Cecil’s National Club Championship, triumphing over Buiduna FC from Tailevu Naitasiri with a score of 6-3 in a thrilling final held at the Fiji FA Academy Ground in Vatuwaqa.
The match kicked off with early momentum for Northpole, as Salimone Ravonokula put them in front just 10 minutes in, followed by veteran forward Christopher Wasasala converting a penalty to double their advantage. Buiduna FC responded with a goal from France Catarogo in the 38th minute, with Sairusi Qiolevu equalizing shortly after to set the stage for an exciting second half.
In the second half, Northpole FC regained control and scored four additional goals from players Melvin Mani, Wasasala, Eparama Moraica, and Malakai Arabaz, sealing their victory. As champions, Northpole FC took home $4,000 and received the Fair Play award. Additionally, Wasasala emerged as the tournament’s top scorer, earning the Golden Boot Award, while Ilisoni Lolaivalu was honored with the Golden Ball Award for his exceptional performances.
Buiduna FC, although falling short, received $1,000, and their goalkeeper Kitione Baleiloa was recognized with the Golden Glove Award for his efforts throughout the tournament.
