Labasa’s Northpole FC emerged victorious in the 2024 Cecil’s National Club Championship, defeating Buiduna FC from Tailevu Naitasiri with an impressive score of 6-3 in a thrilling final held at the Fiji FA Academy Ground in Vatuwaqa.
The match kicked off with Salimone Ravonokula putting Northpole FC ahead in the 10th minute. Christopher Wasasala extended their lead by converting a penalty just 20 minutes later. However, Buiduna FC responded with France Catarogo scoring in the 38th minute, followed by Sairusi Qiolevu equalizing just before halftime, setting the stage for a competitive second half.
Northpole FC dominated the final period of the match, scoring four additional goals, contributed by Melvin Mani, Wasasala, Eparama Moraica, and Malakai Arabaz. This outstanding performance not only secured them the championship title but also a cash prize of $4000.
In addition to their victory, Northpole FC was honored with the Fair Play award. Wasasala’s remarkable performance throughout the tournament earned him the Golden Boot Award as the top scorer with six goals, while Ilisoni Lolaivalu received the Golden Ball Award for his exceptional play.
Buiduna FC, although on the losing side, walked away with a prize of $1000, and their goalkeeper Kitione Baleiloa was recognized with the Golden Glove Award for his efforts throughout the tournament.
