Labasa’s Northpole FC secured the title of the 2024 Cecil’s National Club Championship by triumphing over Buiduna FC from Tailevu Naitasiri in a thrilling final that ended with a score of 6-3, held at the Fiji FA Academy Ground in Vatuwaqa.

The match began with Northpole FC taking an early lead, thanks to Salimone Ravonokula, who scored in the 10th minute. Veteran player Christopher Wasasala increased their advantage by successfully converting a penalty kick twenty minutes later. However, Buiduna FC responded fiercely with France Catarogo scoring in the 38th minute. The tension escalated just before halftime when Sairusi Qiolevu equalized, setting the stage for an electrifying second half.

In the second half, Northpole FC showcased their dominance, netting four additional goals through Melvin Mani, Wasasala, Eparama Moraica, and Malakai Arabaz. Their performance not only secured the championship but also earned them a prize of $4,000. Northpole FC was also recognized for their sportsmanship with the Fair Play award.

Wasasala’s standout performance earned him the Golden Boot Award as the tournament’s top scorer with six goals, while Ilisoni Lolaivalu was awarded the Golden Ball for his exceptional plays throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, Buiduna FC received $1,000 and their goalkeeper, Kitione Baleiloa, was honored with the Golden Glove Award for his impressive goalkeeping skills.
