Northpole FC from Labasa secured the 2024 Cecil’s National Club Championship title after a thrilling 6-3 victory over Buiduna FC from Tailevu Naitasiri at the Fiji FA Academy Ground in Vatuwaqa. The match showcased an impressive display of talent and resilience from both teams.
Northpole FC took an early lead when Salimone Ravonokula scored in the 10th minute. Veteran player Christopher Wasasala then extended their lead with a penalty goal in the 30th minute. However, Buiduna FC fought back as France Catarogo scored in the 38th minute, followed by an equalizer from Sairusi Qiolevu just before halftime, setting the stage for an intense second half.
In the latter half of the match, Northpole FC showcased their dominance, scoring four additional goals through Melvin Mani, Wasasala again, Eparama Moraica, and Malakai Arabaz, bringing their total to six goals. For their performance, Northpole FC took home a prize of $4,000, along with the Fair Play award. Christopher Wasasala was recognized as the tournament’s top scorer, earning the Golden Boot Award with six goals, while Ilisoni Lolaivalu received the Golden Ball Award for his exceptional performances throughout the tournament.
Buiduna FC, although the runners-up, received $1,000, and their goalkeeper, Kitione Baleiloa, was awarded the Golden Glove for his outstanding efforts in the tournament.
