Labasa’s Northpole FC has successfully defended its title in the Dayal Sawmillers National Club Championships, securing a commanding 3-0 victory over Ba’s 4R FC. The match showcased Northpole’s strong performance, with the team taking an early lead in the 13th minute. Ratu Anare capitalized on a well-executed team play to score the opening goal.

Dominating the game’s momentum, Northpole maintained relentless pressure throughout, and just before halftime, Rusiate Doidoi added a second goal in the 44th minute. Doidoi showcased his speed and skill, outpacing the 4R goalkeeper before firing in a powerful shot that solidified Northpole’s 2-0 lead.

As the second half began, a confident Northpole continued to control the game, forcing 4R to defend deeply in their half, even as heavy rain began to fall. Although 4R managed to create a few opportunities, they failed to convert. In the 84th minute, Northpole’s Ilisoni Lolaivau sealed the match with a striking goal, resulting from swift counter-attacks that broke through the 4R defense.

Head coach Alvin Chand commended his players for their hard work, particularly highlighting their performance in the second half. He emphasized the importance of composure, reminding them that a 2-0 lead at halftime could still be at risk. “This is football, and with another 45 minutes remaining, anything can happen,” he stated.

Chand expressed that defending the title carried significant meaning for the team. “Winning the title is one thing, but it takes twice the effort to defend it, so this is very special,” he remarked. He dedicated the victory to fans and sponsors and extended his gratitude to the team’s president for their support.

This successful title defense not only showcases Northpole’s skill and determination but also strengthens their position as a formidable force in local football, providing hope for more successes in future competitions.
