Northland-Tailevu Shines in Youth League Showdown!

The Northland-Tailevu under-16 team showcased an impressive performance, securing a 2-0 win over Nasinu in the Digicel Fiji Girls Youth League at the Pacific Theological College in Suva yesterday.

The match began competitively for both sides, but it was Miliama Leba who broke the stalemate, scoring a stunning goal in the 20th minute of the second half that flew over the goalkeeper’s head. Northland-Tailevu maintained their composure and added another goal, solidifying their victory.

Shanil Chand, president of the Tailevu team, commended his players for their execution of the game plan he provided. Despite facing challenges from Nasinu during the match, he praised his team’s resilience in clinching the win.

“I instructed my girls on what needed to be done and encouraged them to stay focused, and they delivered by getting the win,” Chand remarked. He also highlighted the potential for these young players to develop into future national team members, noting the abundance of talent and the strong work ethic displayed on the field.

Chand praised Fiji Football for organizing the league, which gives young girls the chance to play and interact with other teams during the school holidays. He stressed the importance of ongoing improvement and expressed satisfaction with the progress made by his team.

In other results from the league, Rewa triumphed over Suva with a 1-0 victory, while Northland-Tailevu managed a goalless draw against Navua.
