The permanent secretary for Education, Selina Kuruleca, has assured that the water supply in northern schools is sufficient to last until the upcoming school break. She stated that water services have been effectively provided to schools that requested assistance, particularly in Namuka and Dogotuki.
Kuruleca mentioned that a taskforce led by Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima is managing the water supply issue. “Following our latest meeting on Monday, everything is under control,” she noted. Additionally, the Commissioner’s Office is coordinating with the National Disaster Management Office in case there is a need to transport water to maritime areas.
So far, there have been no significant complaints or requests from schools regarding water shortages. However, Kuruleca acknowledged that there are ongoing water cuts in the Vunika region, which is home to five schools. Nonetheless, she reassured that the water tanks there are adequate to support them, and the situation is being closely monitored in collaboration with school heads and the drought taskforce team.
The school break for the end of the second term is set to commence this Friday.
