A flash flood warning has been issued for low-lying and flood-prone regions in the Northern Division. Commissioner Uraia Rainima emphasized the importance of preparedness after the Fiji Meteorological Service announced a strong wind warning for the area. In response, he convened essential services team leaders, including representatives from the Fiji Roads Authority, Fiji Police, and the National Fire Authority.

Rainima noted that even after recent heavy rainfall, the main roads on the island remained accessible over the weekend. He also communicated with various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, to ensure that schools designated as evacuation centers are ready for potential emergencies.

The Commissioner urged residents to prioritize safety, advising families to make proactive decisions and seek shelter before any possible flooding occurs. Measures have been put in place to address any emergencies that may arise.

This proactive approach highlights the commitment of local authorities to ensure the safety and preparedness of the community in the face of adverse weather conditions.

Overall, while the situation remains serious, the readiness and coordination among essential services offer hope that potential impacts can be managed effectively.
