Spread the love

Three water sources managed by the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) in the Northern Division are experiencing critical levels due to an extended dry period affecting the area.

In an official statement, WAF reported that both the Wainikoro and Vunika systems, situated northeast of Labasa, are operating under critical conditions. The Vunika system is currently being supported by the Benau system in Labasa, while the Wainikoro system is facing potential rationing. The authority has indicated that water carting assistance may be implemented if conditions deteriorate further.

Additionally, the Nasalasala system, located southeast of Labasa, is nearing critical levels as well. WAF has warned of potential rationing in the weeks ahead.

All other water sources in the region are functioning normally. WAF emphasized its commitment to monitoring water levels and adjusting valve operations as necessary, along with prioritizing repairs for leaks along roadways.

The authority announced that details about any potential water rationing would be shared in the coming days if the situation continues to escalate.
