A flash flood warning remains active for low-lying and flood-prone areas in Fiji’s Northern Division. Uraia Rainima, the Northern Commissioner, convened an emergency meeting with essential service leaders following a strong wind warning issued by the Fiji Meteorological Service on Saturday.

Mr. Rainima gathered representatives from the Fiji Roads Authority, Fiji Police, National Fire Authority, and other essential service teams to coordinate responses. He reported that despite heavy rainfall over the weekend, all connecting roads across the island remained clear.

In preparation for potential emergencies, stakeholders—including the Ministry of Education—have been alerted to inform schools designated as evacuation centers to be ready for action. Mr. Rainima emphasized the importance of safety, urging community members to relocate their families to safer locations ahead of any possible flooding.

This proactive response from local authorities showcases their commitment to ensuring the safety of residents during adverse weather conditions. With effective coordination, the hope is to mitigate risks and protect the community from the effects of the flooding.

Overall, the situation reflects an organized approach to emergency management, highlighting the resilience of the local governance and the willingness to prioritize community safety.
