A flash flood warning is currently in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas within the Northern Division. Uraia Rainima, Commissioner of the Northern Division, convened an urgent meeting with essential service team leaders after the Fiji Meteorological Service issued a strong wind warning over the weekend.

The meeting included representatives from the Fiji Roads Authority, Fiji Police, and the National Fire Authority to coordinate a response to the forecast. Rainima reported that while heavy rain has occurred in recent days, the connecting roads across the island remained clear during the weekend.

Authorities have also reached out to stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, to prepare schools designated as evacuation centers. “All necessary arrangements have been made to respond to any emergency,” Rainima stated, emphasizing the importance of safety for residents. He urged people to make wise decisions and move their families to safe locations in anticipation of potential flooding.

This proactive approach underscores the commitment to ensuring community safety during severe weather events. The collaborative efforts among essential services reflect a strong community spirit aimed at protecting lives and property.

In summary, while the weather poses challenges, the readiness and coordination among authorities present a reassuring message of resilience and preparedness for those affected.
