Most contestants in the upcoming week-long Northern Duavata Crime Prevention Carnival will be advocating against drug abuse, according to carnival committee president Satish Kumar.
During the carnival’s launch, Kumar emphasized the severe consequences of insufficient awareness about the dangers of drugs, highlighting the potential for losing loved ones.
“Recently, I spoke with a doctor at St Giles Hospital who informed me that more people are being admitted for drug abuse rehabilitation,” Kumar shared.
Kumar stressed that raising awareness about illicit drugs is a collective responsibility and not solely the duty of the police.
“It is the duty of the community, guardians, parents, and children to raise awareness,” he stated.
He urged everyone to acknowledge the detrimental impact drugs have on society.
“Throughout the carnival, everyone will receive important messages from the contestants about the fight against drugs.”
Seven queen contestants will compete for the Miss Duavata Northern Crime Prevention title from this Friday through next Saturday at Subrail Park in Labasa.
Additionally, three kings, six princesses, and five teens will vie for crowns in their respective categories.
