Surge operations conducted in the Northern Division have resulted in multiple arrests related to the unlawful possession of illicit drugs. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, reported that these operations are bolstered by additional personnel from specialized units including the Police Mobile Force, Fiji Detector Dog Unit, and the Police Dog Unit.
Driu emphasized that disrupting the drug supply chain is a critical focus for the police, with efforts involving farm raids, cleanup exercises, and the targeting of distributors. He noted that community engagement and information sharing have played a key role in the success of these operations, reflecting an increasing public solidarity in the fight against drug-related issues.
During the latest surge, authorities arrested five men aged between 20 and 30 years. In addition to drug-related arrests, items believed to be stolen were also confiscated during these operations. Investigations are ongoing as the police continue their efforts to combat drug-related crimes in the region.
This proactive approach by law enforcement not only addresses immediate threats but also fosters a stronger community alliance in the fight against drugs, creating a safer environment for all residents. The commitment to tackling drug distribution reflects a hopeful outlook toward reducing drug-related incidents in the Northern Division.
