For the first time in the history of the Vodafone Deans Trophy, schools from the Northern Division will participate in all grades during the play-offs, set to take place in Suva this weekend. Biu Colati, Vice President for Development of the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union, noted that the Northern Division has experienced substantial growth, making it the fastest-growing zone in the competition.
Colati pointed out a remarkable increase in the number of participating schools this year, indicating a rising interest and development of rugby within the region. “This is the fastest growing zone we see at the moment, and we know from our discussions that there are going to be new schools joining in the next season,” he remarked. The involvement of Northern schools across all grades of the play-offs demonstrates the depth of talent emerging from the region.
In light of recent events, this achievement contributes to the overall expansion and evolution of the competition, offering a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills and passion for rugby. Historical perspectives show that the inclusion of Northern schools is a significant milestone, suggesting a bright future for rugby in that division.
The upcoming matches are sure to provide thrilling action, as teams from various zones compete for the prestigious trophy, signaling a new era for school rugby in Fiji.
