Northern Division Schools Closed as Flood Warnings Persist — Reopening Date TBA

All schools in the Northern Division are closed today, Wednesday, November 26, due to heavy rainfall and rising floodwaters impacting the region. The Ministry of Education confirmed this decision following updated alerts indicating persistent rain, flash flood warnings, and multiple roads that are already underwater or inaccessible.

Communities in Vanua Levu are especially aware of how quickly weather conditions can worsen during extended periods of rain. The school closures aim to ensure the safety of students and teachers while authorities continue to monitor the situation. Schools in the Central, Western, and Eastern Divisions are still operational; however, parents are advised to assess the weather conditions in their specific areas and act accordingly.

Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, has urged school heads in the Northern Division to maintain close communication with their Management Committees, District Education Offices, and the Divisional Emergency Operations Centre as new developments arise. The Ministry will announce dates for reopening once the conditions improve. Currently, the safety of school communities in the Northern Division remains the foremost concern.
